City kids can visit Bobby Charlton Soccer School in

Manchester

The Indian Youth Soccer Academy (IYSA) has organised a tour for football buffs in the age group of 12-18 years to the Bobby Charlton Soccer School (BCSS) near Manchester, England, in the second week of May.

The training-cum-coaching trip to BCSS, where England captain and former Manchester United player David Beckham learnt his basics as a 11-year-old, is aimed at providing a first-hand exposure to professional football for youngsters from the city.

IYSA Director Nirvan Shah said football has a lot of fan following in the city and the youngsters need to be given the chance to learn from the best.

“The BCSS, started by former great Bobby Charlton (a mercurial striker for the English side in the sixties), is the ideal place for them to learn the skills which got Beckham selected by the Manchester United talent scouts,” said Shah.

The itinerary of the eight-day tour includes skills and fitness testing, sports psychology sessions and games against local teams. Each player will be graded at the start and end of the tour by UEFA recognised professional coaches who will also impart training to the youngsters.

Apart from that, the participants will be taken on a tour of Manchester city and on a tour of the stadium ‘Theatre of Dreams’ where, if lucky, the Mumbai boys can meet some of the Manchester United players. At the end of the tour, the players will receive BCSS certificates with their grading.

“The BCSS will provide all the facilities which are used to train their players and we hope that the experience will make the boys sharper, and skilful,” said Shah, who is a footballer himself, and trains children at the Priyadarshini Park.

As per the request of the BCSS, the organisers have had to restrict the number of entries to 20 players only. “Players from across the city schools have confirmed their participation,” informed Shah, “And the seats are filling fast.”

The organisers will have a ten-day preparatory camp before the tour.

Nirvan Shah or Anjali Shah can be contacted on: 3042 2263 or 98202 68365.
